I did it, I bought a Clio

Ever since I got the bug for track days and performance driving, people have been telling me I’ve got to get a Clio.

I have always hated the look, hated the style and thought I would hate the drive too (RWD fan boy here).

After experiencing how expensive it is to run (and repair) BMWs I decided in order to get more seat time, I’d have to get something cheaper.

Of all the Clios, I always thought the RS 200 looked a little more decent compared to the others and saw this for sale on Facebook. Had been up for a very long time so made and offer half expecting to get rejected.

He accepted, we viewed the car, happy to take it away. And very excited to test on the track (as it is not road legal).

On the sighting lap at it’s first track day at Brands Hatch, our car started pouring out with smoke. Turns out the car was overfilled with oil and it was smoking up. We dumped the oil, filled it up again and let the smoke burn off, an hour later ready for the track.

Getting to learn the car, first time in FWD on track and very little experience in FWD at all (mostly vans!)

A couple passes and a little spin. Pretty good fun!

Javelin track days were fantastic and were very understadning of the technical issues we faced at the start.

I now appreciate why everyone seems to be running one of these Renault Sports and look forward to many more FWD track days, reserving the M3 for just a few stints a year.

ALSO, first time trying to mess around with the 360 camera on my Insta360 One R. Think it came out well with the cockpit view.
